Do we need to book?
No, just turn up. If you are concerned about the weather, give us a call,
but there is no need to book.
When does the waterjet operate?
The Captain Cook Memorial Jet operates daily from 11am until 4pm. For

Are life jackets available?
There are personal floatation devices for toddlers, children and adults.
How deep is the lake?
Lake Burley Griffin is a shallow lake occupying the flood plain of the Molonglo
River, with a maximum depth of 17.6 metres near Scrivener Dam and a mean depth of
four metres, with the shallowest part at 1.9 metres at East Basin. For

Are there fish in the lake?
Yes, the introduced species European Carp and Redfin (English Perch) are the main fish
caught in the Lake. Other fish in limited numbers inlude Golden Perch, Silver Perch,
Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Murray Cod.
Are there picnic facilities nearby?
Yes, a number of free to use barbeques and picnic tables are close by in
Acton Park.
Public toilets are also available.
Would I be able to paddle to view the Capatin Cook Memorial Jet close up?
Yes, in any of the boats available for hire you can get to the Jet and be back within
the hourly hire period.
Can I feed the Black Swans with bread scraps?
It is better not to feed the Swans with bread as they are vegetarians and feed on
algae and weeds usually by plunging their heads underwater. Occasionally, the birds
will graze on land but they are clumsy walkers.
